Product Categories & Where They're Made

China's manufacturing is clustered by region. Knowing where a category is made saves you time and money.

Electronics & Gadgets

Hub: Shenzhen (Huaqiangbei), Dongguan, Huizhou

The world's electronics manufacturing heartland. Everything from phone accessories to PCBs, LED lighting, and consumer gadgets. Strengths: extreme speed and flexibility, huge component ecosystem. Gotchas: quality varies wildly between "original" and "clone" products; verify components carefully.

Tips: Huaqiangbei market is a quick way to see trends physically. For custom PCB/assembly, factories here are world-class and competitive.

Apparel & Textiles

Hub: Guangzhou, Ningbo, Wuxi, Foshan

Mass-market clothing, sportswear, denim, and technical fabrics. Strengths: low labor cost, huge scale, full supply chain from fabric to finished garment. Gotchas: MOQs can be high for custom prints; fabric quality must be specified precisely or you'll get what you pay for.

Tips: Order fabric swatches first. Specify stitch density, GSM, and shrinkage tolerances in writing.

Machinery & Industrial

Hub: Shandong (Texas of China), Zhejiang (Ningbo), Jiangsu

Machine tools, packaging machinery, pumps, valves, and industrial components. Strengths: enormous selection, competitive prices, mature export experience. Gotchas: certification and CE/compliance are your responsibility — confirm before committing.

Tips: For machinery, always buy with a spare-parts package and get the operation manual in writing. Consider a third-party pre-shipment inspection.

Furniture & Home Goods

Hub: Foshan (Lecong), Dongguan, Dalian

From mass-market furniture to mid-range home decor and kitchenware. Strengths: very cost-effective, huge variety. Gotchas: wood types and finishes matter — get samples of the actual finish, not just a photo.

Tips: Furniture is bulky and expensive to ship — factor in volumetric freight and use a freight forwarder you trust.
